ProElite’s rebirth takes place later this month on August 27, when a show live from Honolulu features several notable MMA veterans.
In addition to former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski — the Belarusian striker has admittedly had difficulty of late — Kendall Grove and Joe Riggs will also be featured.
Grove and Riggs fought in 2004, when Grove won via KO (elbows) in the first round, though Riggs was a significantly more experienced fighter at the time.
Here is the full fight card:
- Kendall Grove vs. Joe Riggs
- Andrei Arlovski vs. Ray Lopez
- Reagan Penn vs. Paul Gardiner
- Sarah McMann vs. Raquel Pa’aluhi
- Mark Ellis vs. Jake Heun
- Drew McFedries vs. Kala Hose
UFC superstar BJ Penn’s younger brother, Reagan Penn, will also make his MMA debut against Paul Gardiner on this fight card. Well known Hawaiian, Kala Hose faces a tough test against McFedries, the former UFC middleweight fighter.
This event will be popular among hardcore MMA fans, but will unfortunately fly right under the radar among casual fans. I think ProElite is using a good mix of former UFC fighters to draw attention, and there are several recent free agents that could be picked up for future fight cards. The organization should be careful to help its own talent mature, as former UFC castoffs demand higher paychecks and bring additional baggage.
You’ll be able to watch the event for free on Sherdog, with the event taking place at 1:00 a.m. EST.
There were rumors ProElite was close to broadcast agreements with CBS and Showtime, but that hasn’t happened just quite yet.
