The SQUABBLES Level 1 Certification Program is a comprehensive professional development course for therapists who work with children. It presents an easily taught and learned approach to dealing with aggression that empowers the individual, reduces bullying and aggression, and improves the child’s relationships with peers at school and siblings at home. You will become proficient in the SQUABBLES Conflict Resolution System that is designed to build up the emotional resilience of a child in their unique areas of vulnerability. A child who learns to become unfazed by petty quarrels and non-criminal offenses suffers less and experiences an increase in personal satisfaction and academic achievement.

You will learn research-based strategies and tools to help students manage conflict. You will gain skills to empower students to manage their emotions and resolve their social problems. You will gain quick intervention techniques, access evaluation tools, and enjoy a library of role-play games to solve painful problems in a spirit of play.

This training is for mental health providers, school counselors and psychologists, juvenile workers, allied professionals and clergy, students and interns, family clinic staff, professors/teachers of couples therapy, researchers in the social sciences, and employee assistance professionals. There are no prerequisites.

At the completion of this training, you will be able to:

• Teach students how to apply the common-sense wisdom of the Golden Rule to break free of the bully-victim cycle.

• Promote the resilience, emotional maturity, and independence that will equip students for facing life’s challenges.

• Teach students how to handle the broad variety of social challenges they typically encounter, such as verbal bullying, cyberbullying, rumors, social exclusion, relational aggression, physical aggression, and intimidation by adults.

• Teach school staff simple approaches for reducing aggression among students while enhancing their self-regulation and coping skills.

• Replace the prevalent, ineffective and time-consuming legalistic approach to bullying with a more effective and efficient psychological/educational approach.

• Teach students to solve interpersonal problems on their own.

• Manage parents’ anger triggered by their child’s social problems and get buy-in to try a more resilient approach to solve the problem.
