Rewarding Resilience

Objective:  GritCoin Dollars are a simple way for adults to recognize and reward resilience in students.

These can be used in any environment, including schools, youth treatment centers, and even by parents at home.

Materials:  GritCoin Dollars (Elementary & Middle/High Versions).

How to Use:  Print the dollars and distribute them to grownups. When you see a student demonstrate grit, perseverance, patience, or regulate their emotions, give them a GritCoin Dollar. When you highlight resilience, it inspires others to be resilient in their own lives.

It's helpful to have students write their names on the GritCoin dollars and have a weekly drawing, to choose a winner. This can be done during morning announcements or in the lunch room. 

Rewards are usually a prize or a privilege. While prizes are nice, there are also no-cost rewards such as lunch with the principal or counselor or a dress code privilege (no uniform, hat day, etc.). Middle/high school students also appreciate the ability to listen to music with earbuds during their school day.

Printing Instructions:  Set your printer to black & white, double-sided. We recommend printing our dollars on colored paper.
